We offer a full range of psychological, neuropsychological, and psycho-educational testing services.

Psychological evaluations are comprehensive assessments of a client's current psychological functioning, including intellectual abilities, emotional behavioral experience, social adaptability, and personality. A psychological evaluation is intended to provide a structured, organized, and succinct description of a client's strengths and weaknesses in response to specific referral questions. The evaluation offers insight into a client's capacity for adequate functioning and severity of a particular disturbance.

The purpose of psychological evaluations is to gain a better understanding of what is happening in a client's psychological life that may be blocking his /her ability to thrive and live in a more constructive manner. This type of evaluation places emphasis on fostering understanding and providing recommendations to the client, families, schools, and other professionals in order to maximize the client's potential. In addition, a psychological evaluation is often used to confirm or modify diagnostic impressions formed by a referring provider (physician, psychiatrist, school, etc.). A comprehensive psychological evaluation can identify needs in therapy, highlight issues that may come up in treatment, recommend particular forms of intervention, and offer guidance about potential outcomes of treatment.

Neuropsychological testing provides diagnostic clarification and grading of clinical severity for clients with cognitive disorders. Neuropsychological tests examine a variety of cognitive abilities and patterns of performance in different cognitive areas, including processing speed, abstract thinking, attention, memory, language, and executive functions that are necessary for goal-directed behavior. Neuropsychological testing can also determine the strengths and preserved abilities of clients, which is important to forming a treatment plan and offering recommendations about environmental modifications that may be useful (e.g., job modifications, looking for a more supportive living environment, etc.).

Psycho-educational testing provides information about the client's development, learning, memory, academics, behavior, and mental health. Psycho-educational testing measures potential (not what has been learned), and it clarifies the nature of the processing deficits. In contrast, educational assessments measure what has been learned in math, reading, spelling, and other academic areas. Comparing psycho-educational and educational tests can help to document possible information processing dysfunctions that have a significant negative impact on academic achievement. Psycho-educational testing can help identify a client's strengths and weaknesses across many areas of academic functioning.
