Meals
We are sorry but due to exorbitant prices we will not be offering a continental breakfast, nor can we offer coffee, tea, and snacks, throughout the day. However, there is a cafeteria and vending machines located on the 2nd floor of the conference center that will be open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 8:00pm. Also, there is a wide variety of world-class cuisine available at all financial levels and within walking distance from the conference center. Additionally, “The Person-Centered Guide to New York City” will list a wide variety of eating possibilities that will be broken down by price, style of food, and distance from the conference center. The guide will be available at the registration desk.
How to Register
Registration consists of the registration fee plus the total housing fee for each night you wish to stay at the NYU dorms. Therefore you pay us directly for the NYU dorms and you DO NOT PAY NYU FOR THE DORMS.
Also, please note, every conference participant is automatically eligible to stay at the NYU dorms for up to three weeks including the time of the conference.
We encourage registration to be made by personal check (from United States bank accounts only) to avoid unnecessary bank and credit card charges.

What is the ADPCA?
The Association for the Development of the Person-Centered Approach (ADPCA) is an international network of individuals who support the development and application of the person-centered approach. ADPCA welcomes the participation of educators, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, health service providers, pastoral counselors, organization development specialists, and all people who are interested in the field of human relations and personal and interpersonal development. In an endeavor to practice the person-centered approach within the Association, all members share the responsibilities and privileges of leadership.
The Association sponsors an annual conference, the distinctive features of which are large community group meetings, smaller therapeutic groups, and presentations by individuals of research related to the approach. It publishes a newsletter, a journal, and an annual membership directory. Membership benefits include subscriptions to those publications and participation in a community of individuals who share person-centered values. For more information see the following web sites: the ADPCA web site http://www.adpca.org and a Carl Rogers web site at http://www.carlrogers.info.
What is the Person Centered Approach and how does it relate to Client Centered Therapy?
The Person-Centered Approach can be understood as an evolution in Client-Centered Therapy as originated by the well-known American psychologist Carl Rogers. Rogers’s form of psychotherapy, known as Client-Centered Therapy, is expressed through three core conditions: unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence. The expression of these core conditions, in combination with “non-directive” interaction, can be understood as the fundamental force that can facilitate each individuals “actualizing tendency.” The Person-Centered Approach attempts to expand upon Client-Centered Therapy by extending the range of the application of the core conditions and non-directivity to individuals and groups outside of the psychotherapy practice.
Why should I Attend the 2007 ADPCA Conference in New York City?
ADPCA conferences are unique experiences compared to other mental health related conferences because they encompass both professional activities and personal growth. Therefore, in addition to presentations and other professional discussions, the ADPCA 2007 conference will include: community meetings where every participant is free to take part in large encounter group type experiences, small groups where more intimate exchanges occur, business meetings that allow every participant to have an equal opportunity to take part in and influence the planning of ADPCA activities, as well as other gatherings that range from an opening night party to the closing night talent show. Therefore, the ADPCA 2007 conference will focus on professional and personal/relational growth in an environment where equality for all participants is held as fundamental.
Please join us for the 2007 ADPCA conference at New York University which is located in one of the most beautiful and exciting parts of New York City, right in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village and overlooking Washington Square Park.
While this event will certainly be professionally rewarding, the opportunities for personal growth are even greater. This is the essence of the Person-Centered Approach, and the 2007 ADPCA meeting in New York City is an opportunity not to be missed.
